A 24-year-old female police officer pretended to be a medical student to investigate a ragging case that had been reported at the government-run college. She pretended to be an undercover student for three months at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) medical college in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Monday.
Shalini Chouhan, a 24-year-old constable with the Madhya Pradesh Police, played a very important role in the recent crackdown on ragging at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore.
She tracked down 11 senior students who were allegedly involved in the vicious ragging of first-year students over the course of three months. The seniors have been suspended from the college and the dorm for three months.
The college's junior students told the police in July that the seniors had forced them to perform sex acts on pillows and their batchmates. They also claimed to the police that the seniors had forced them to abuse their female batchmates.
Woman Cop Posed As College Student To Crack Ragging Case
The University Grants Commission (UGC) helpline had received a complaint from a college student, and on July 24, the institute's administration filed a criminal case against unidentified students. The ragging incident was fully described in the complaint on the UGC helpline, but the names of the accused and the complaining student were not mentioned. The complaint included screenshots of conversations on a social media site, but Tehzeeb Qazi, the in-charge of the Sanyogitaganj police station, said it was uncertain how many students were involved.

A female police officer was sent out to the college, where she pretended to be a medical student, and she was able to successfully tie up all the loose ends in the case to bring the accused to justice, he claimed. In order to solve the case, he claimed that two constables were also sent as canteen workers to the college and that another woman employee was enlisted to pretend to be a nurse.
According to the official, a full investigation not only helped the police identify the 11 students who were involved but also confirmed the crime. According to the investigation, senior students were accused of ragging their juniors by forcing them to commit obscene acts, he explained.
According to relevant Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) provisions, notices have been given to the accused, and they have been urged to assist with the investigations and show up in court when the charge sheet is submitted, the official said. The college administration last week suspended them for three months with immediate effect after receiving a list of the accused students, he added.
