Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is the current ruling party in Tamil Nadu with M.K. Stalin as Chief Minister. The party held an event in Chennai recently where some workers from the party molested a female constable who was on duty during the event.
On Saturday, December 31, DMK held a public meet in Virugambakkam, Chennai in the presence of many prominent leaders of the party like Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Member of Legislative Assembly AMV Prabhakara Raja and health minister Ma Subramanian. The public programme was organised to celebrate the centenary K Anbazhagan, former General Secretary and minister of DMK. During the event, two functionaries of the youth wing of DMK reportedly harassed a woman constable who was on duty during the event.

The matter came into notice when other police personnel found their female colleague crying and they rushed to arrest the two accused who were identified as Egambaram and Praveen. However, other DMK workers stopped them from doing so and sided with the accused. They created a scene at the event and the two youth wing members were set free and no official complaint was filed against them, they were allowed to roam freely during the event.
Regarding the incident, opposition party BJP's leader K Annamalai wrote on Twitter, "Disgraceful state of affairs in Tamil Nadu. Governance is in deep slumber. Two DMK Youth wing functionaries molested a police constable on protection duty in a public meeting in which MP Smt @KanimozhiDMK avargal participated."
He continued in another tweet, "What's more disgusting is that the DMK men ganged up and stopped police from arresting those two individuals. @CMOTamilnadu, as usual, continues to be a silent spectator to this."
DMK did not initiate any action against the two accused members. On Sunday, the woman constable reportedly went to the Valasaravakkam police station and lodged a complaint against the two DMK youth wing members who allegedly harassed her. The police has not yet filed a case.
