A 38-year-old woman in Delhi's Sainik Nagar area was choked and robbed while she was out for a morning walk. She was robbed of her mobile phone and a bag on Saturday morning. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera using which the Police nabbed the accused. It was further revealed that the accused was involved in six other criminal cases.
As per the reports, the accused has been identified as Shiv Kumar alias Vikky. The robbery happened on a lane near Bindarpur area in Delhi. It was captured in the CCTV plant facing the lane. The 45-second CCTV footage also emerged on social media which showed how the accused Vikky overpowered the woman and robbed her.
Details of the video
In the video, a man can be seen following the woman who is visibly walking briskly, perhaps in an attempt to escape the suspected danger. As soon as the woman enters the lane where the CCTV is planted, the man nears her from behind and puts her in a chokehold. The woman is seen feeling restless and trying to free herself. But her attempts fail as she collapses and falls to the ground. The man then takes her mobile phone and a bag and flees the spot. Moments later, the woman is seen gaining consciousness and getting back to her feet.
The Police's swift action
The police said that the woman immediately filed a complaint and the police started the manhunt setting up multiple teams. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan Mandava said that Vikky was arrested on Sunday and the woman's mobile phone and other belongings were recovered.
"We solved the case after arresting the suspect, identified as Shiv Kumar alias Vikky, a 38-year-old native of Bhilwara village in Sirohi district of Rajasthan. He has been booked for robbery, (section 392 of Indian Penal Code) by the Bindapur police station… Kumar was previously involved in six cases,” Mandava said.
