A woman called witch by the local villagers was allegedly stabbed to death by her neighbours in presence of her son. The police are yet to lodge a case against the alleged murderers.
A woman from Gudara village was accused of practising black magic by the villagers in the West Champaran area. She was allegedly stabbed by her neighbours on Sunday, said a police report on Monday.
The police recorded the statement of the woman's son who was present during the incident. He reportedly said in his statement that the villagers branded her to be a witch. He added that one of his neighbours barged into her house at 12 AM in the night. He repeatedly stabbed his mother to death.
A police official from the Majhauliya police station, Ashok Kumar who is the station house officer (SHO) said, "We came to know about the incident around 4 am. Soon after, police sent the body for autopsy. Further investigation into the matter is underway."
No case has been filed yet, according to reports. The Subdivisional police officer Mukul Parimal Pandey said that they are waiting for the return of the deceased woman's husband in order to lodge a complaint. The investigation is still ongoing.

On Sunday, in the same place, the police officials arrested a person in connection to a narcotics case. They had seized about 56 kilograms of narcotics during a raid at a place near Kotwa. Navin Chand Jha, who is the East Champaran superintendent of police (SP), said, "Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house of one Rakesh Singh and seized 56kg opium from his possession."
After primary investigation, the officials found out that the person has been smuggling drugs from Nepal into the country and also supplying them to different states. The police are still investigating ahead.
