Comedian Sanjay Rajoura has been accused of sexual abuse and coercion for sex by a woman on Instagram. The woman, who chose to go by the alias"Tara" in her posts, shared on September 23 that Rajoura had allegedly coerced her into performing oral sex at a public place despite her hesitation. She also alleged that two weeks after meeting him, Rajaoura allegedly tried to self-harm on a video call with her. She also accused him of asking nudes from her and sharing an unsolicited nude image of a woman, suggesting a threesome.
*Trigger Warning: This article contains graphic details about an alleged incidence of sexual abuse.
According to the survivor who identifies as a "cis woman in her early 20's" she became friends with Rajoura on Facebook, where he was the first one to message her. The conversation between them moved to phone calls and WhatsApp, heavily focussed on his personal life and the betrayals he had experienced. "All such conversations made me feel sorry and sympathy for him but I also felt special that he trusted me.
The woman alleged that a day later Rajoura began flirting with her, complimenting her on her "figure" and calling her pictures "hot". She further claimed, "He started talking like he assumed I would be willing to have sex with him during our first meet up- he asked me if he should shave his pubes for our meet-up." The woman added that she was astounded that he had assumed her consent.
She further alleged that Rajoura would ask her to send him "unsafe" and naked pictures. "Even when I told him that it was too soon or made excuses expressing hesitancy, he was persistent and found loopholes to my excuses."
In a separate post, the woman accused Rajoura of coercing her into performing oral sex at a public place. "He put his hand on my shoulder and guided me on my knees to perform the act."
She added that even after their meeting she continued to entertain his calls and interact with him. "It took me more than a few months to come to the painful realization that what had happened between us was toxic, overpowering, and problematic. Adding that she felt intimidated by him, his influence and power, the woman said she couldn’t walkout.
"So why am I speaking up now? I am doing this for MYSELF, to unburden this weight I have been carrying for so long. It is not on me to convince the world of my experience, hence I am not attaching any proof. I am doing this for closure," she wrote.
Calling these incidences of alleged abuse only the tip of the iceberg the woman said that at this moment she didn't have the bandwidth to initiate a formal complaint.
