A woman from Assam has alleged that a state MLA raped her twice last month. She also said that her husband helped the MLA commit the crime.
What happened?
The woman has accused All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Nijam Uddin Choudhury of raping her at the Hailakandi circuit house on May 19 and again at her house on May 23, reported TOI.

An FIR has been lodged following her complaint at the Hailakandi Sadar police station.
Surajit Choudhury, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that according to the woman, her husband helped the MLA commit the crime on both occasions.

She said that the accused tried to take her to Guwahati. However, he reportedly abandoned the plan as she threatened to commit suicide.
The woman also alleged that she was not allowed to go out of the house by her husband. That is also the reason why she couldn't lodge a police complaint earlier.
What does the MLA say?
The accused MLA is from the Algapurv region. Responding to the allegations, he said, "It is totally baseless and a conspiracy against me."
He said that it was the woman who had come to meet him with her husband to settle their family disputes. The MLA said that there was no connection between him and her.
