Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan could find its best ambassadors in women. Shortage of toilets, cleanliness at home and in public and other community challenges are best served when women take up the reins.
SheThePeople.TV spoke to women on how they can prove to be gamechangers for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In their voice, what matters and how women can transform it.
Women's natural inclination towards cleanliness can help
Manishree, a corporate professional from Delhi says "I think it's women's innate quality to like cleanliness. They score better than men when it comes to toilet use. Even I am very particular about it. I think women can encourage people in their neighbourhood to keep the locality squeaky clean. Every locality can elect a female leader for this purpose."

Using Media to spur change
" A lot of women are active on social media. I think women can use this platform to make the masses aware of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Virtual discussions, videos and inspiring stories can help," shares Shivani, Founder of Exotic Delhi.
Prerna, studying in Delhi University believes that female celebrities can encourage people to take this forward. "Female celebrities can help mobilize people. People look upto them for a lot of things. More and more female celebrities should follow the footsteps of Vidya Balan and use movies and commercials as a medium to reach out to people."

Rashi Goel, a law-student studying in Delhi, feels that the onus of instilling the right values related to cleanliness and sanitation lies with the mother."If the mother teaches her children the importance of cleanliness right from childhood, they will never dare to throw garbage on the street. Teachers in schools should emphasize on the same. Raising a conscientious generation is important to combat issues of cleanliness."
Cleanliness from within?
Geeta Sharma, a corporate professional from Gurgaon, interprets the campaign in a different way."Apart from the external cleanliness, keeping yourself clean and pure from inside is equally important. Women's heightened sensitivity can be used to eliminate dirt from the society manifested in the form of gender violence, corruption and deceit."
Well, it is very clear that women can contribute significantly towards this cause. Women in India must try to be become an ambassador of change in their own small ways.
