Boycott Myntra
Boycott Myntra trending on Twitter: The hashtag Boycott Myntra began trending online after an alleged "anti-Hindu" advertisement from the online shopping platform went viral. The alleged ad, featuring the Myntra logo, was an illustration based on a scene from the epic Mahabharata. But why has a meme offended social media so badly, so much so that it is asking for a ban on the e-commerce company? Did Myntra even post the alleged illustration?

An Instagram page called @hindutvaoutloud shared the illustration in a post and people started calling out the e-commerce platform for putting up "anti-Hindu" products and advertisements. The illustration showed Krishna shopping online for an "extra long" saree on the Myntra app during "Draupadi cheerharan".

Many called the graphic disrespectful to their religion and one user wrote, "Do you have the guts to do a similar campaign by using images of revered gods of other religions ? If not then apologise and delete this from all your platforms otherwise we will be forced to #BoycottMyntra. Let’s respect faith of people (sic)." Another social media user wrote, "Uninstalled @myntra for this demeaning advertisement Giving 3 days to @Flipkart to explain its stance on this derogatory ad of its subsidiary else would uninstall flipkart too (sic)." A third wrote that she is now determined to ask colleagues, friends and families to not buy from Myntra ever again

This alleged advertisement made controversy back in 2016 as well when people assumed that this is an advertisement by Myntra. However, it was a post by a user named ScrollDroll, who wanted to explore what would happen if the Gods were to use 21st-century technology.

Back then, Myntra had also clarified the misunderstanding with a tweet, confirming that this advertisement was not published by them. ScrollDroll had taken responsibility for their illustration based on a scene from the Mahabharata. The controversial ad has once again gone viral on Twitter over the weekend enraging Right wingers who are not only boycotting Myntra but also uninstalling Flipkart. The e-commerce giant was involved in another controversy earlier this year when a complaint was lodged with the Mumbai Cyber police alleging its logo to be “insulting” and “offensive” towards women. After the company started receiving backlash from people, the Flipkart-owned fashion, beauty and wellness company had agreed to change the official Myntra logo across all places. Read more here.
