Here are ten things to know about the case that led to Arnab Goswami's arrest today:
1. In May 2018, Alibaug based 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik reportedly died by suicide.
2. In his suicide note, interior designer Anvay Naik had alleged that non-payment of dues by Arnab Goswami of Republic TV, Feroz Shaikh of IcastX/Skimedia and Niteish Sarda of Smartworks was the reason he and his mother had taken this step.
3. The three firms reportedly owed over five crores in due payments to Naik's company Concorde Designs.
4. According to a TOI report, Naik's wife Akshata had lodged a complaint against Goswami, alleging non-payment of dues worth 83 lakh and abetment to suicide.
5. In 2019, the Raigarh police closed the investigation into Naik's death.
6. In May 2020 Naik's daughter Adnya met with Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and complained that the police hadn't investigated “non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s Republic”. Following this, the home minister ordered a CID investigation into the case.
7. Apart from Arnab Goswami, Feroz Shaikh and Niteish Sarda were also arrested in connection with the case on Wednesday.
8. Republic TV has denied the allegation of non-payment, saying that all dues of Concorde Designs were cleared, further calling it a "malicious campaign" run by groups with a vested interest.
9. On October 23, Mumbai Police booked Goswami and the editorial staff of Republic Media Network for allegedly broadcasting defamatory news content against the police department.
10. Goswami is also facing an FIR for allegedly inciting communal tension.
