Who Was Sadhna Gupta? Wife Of Late Samajwadi Founder Mulayam Singh Yadav

Sadhna Gupta, the wife of the late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away earlier this year on July 9 after a prolonged illness. Gupta was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon due to a lung infection.

Gupta had been admitted to the hospital after complaining about health issues and was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after her condition deteriorated.

Sadhna Gupta was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife and is the mother of Prateek Yadav and mother-in-law of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Aparna Yadav.

Yadav was the founder of the Samajwadi Party, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and the former Defence Minister of India. His son, Akhilesh Yadav is a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the national president of the Samajwadi Party.

Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya took to Twitter to offer condolences to Gupta’s family after her passing. He tweeted in Hindi, “Received the sad news of the demise of Sadhna Gupta, wife of former Chief Minister Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav”.

Who was Sadhna Gupta?

• Sadhna Gupta was the wife of a politician and the founder of the Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav. His first wife, Malti Devi had been in a vegetative state from 1973 until her death in 2003 following complications after giving birth to their child Akhilesh Yadav.
• In 2007, Yadav admitted to having a second wife, Gupta, when he filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court related to his income. In the affidavit, Gupta was mentioned as his wife.
• Gupta and Yadav had gotten married in 2003, but the news was officially revealed in 2007.
• Sadhna Gupta hails from the Bindhuna district of Uttar Pradesh. She was married to Chandra Prakash Gupta and the couple have a son together named Prateek Yadav in 1987. The couple got separated a few years following their marriage.
• Gupta met Mulayam Singh Yadav in the 1980s and the couple got married following his first wife's passing.
• Her son Prateek got married to Aparna Yadav, a politician in BJP in 2011.
