Banumathi, a 25-year old kabaddi player from Tamil Nadu, reportedly died by suicide at her home recently. The National level player hanged herself to death on Wednesday in the living room of her house.
The pressure on the sportsperson nowadays has increased to a dangerous level that is forcing them to take severe steps of self-harm. There have been many cases of players who died by suicide since last year and one of the major reasons that was revealed behind those deaths was mental health issues such as depression. Everyone was battling inner dilemmas and questioning self-worth due to one or the other reasons and sadly, there has been the latest addition to the list. A young kabaddi player from Tamil Nadu hanged herself to death at her house on Wednesday, as per reports.
National Level Kabaddi Player Banumathi Dies By Suicide
25-year-old Banumathi hailed from Kanchipuram, a city in Tamil Nadu. She was the youngest in her family whose father was a vegetable vendor in the city named Dharamraj. She decided to make a career in sports by choosing kabaddi as her game and went ahead to play at State and National level championships. She was reportedly expecting a good news with respect to her career which she unfortunately did not receive and was devastated and mentally troubled because of that.
On Wednesday, i.e., March 23, 2022, she decided to end her life by reportedly hanging herself to the ceiling of her living room of her house in Tamil Nadu. When the athlete was found hanging, she was taken to the hospital immediately but was declared dead when arrived there. The suicide case came to the notice of the police officials and the body was sent for postmortem. The police, on the basis of initial investigations, is reportedly considering her job, that she was expecting but never got, as one of the major reasons that drove her to take such a big step.
Mental health has become one of the major concerns of society in recent times as there has been an alarming increase in youth suffering from mental troubles, pressure, anxiety and depression.
