Who was Ambika Rao? A noted name in the Malayalam film industry, actor-director Ambika Rao passed away on Monday night, from a cardiac arrest. Ambika Rao was known for her role in the well-known movie Kumbalangi Nights.
Ambika Rao breathed her last on June 27 night in a private hospital in Ernakulam, Kochi, Kerala. She was reportedly admitted and undergoing treatment after testing positive for COVID. She reportedly passed away at 10.30 pm last night due to cardiac arrest, and sad news of her demise has surfaced.
Ambika Rao aged 58 is survived by her two children Rahul and Sohan. Appearing as the mother of Baby (Anna Ben) and Simi ( Grace Anthony) she was well known for her role in the hit Malayalam movie ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ which was released in 2019.

Ambika Rao hails from Thrissur, Kerala. She was an actor and filmmaker, who entered the film industry as an assistant director to Balachandra Menon for Krishna Gopalakrishna released in 2002. Ambika Rao had worked two decades in the Malayalam film industry.
Malayalam film producer N M Badusha confirmed the news of the actors passing through a Facebook post. In his post, he revealed that the associate director and film star Ambika Rao had passed away, and also mentioned he worked with Ambika in several films. He also paid tribute to late actor-director in his post.
Apart from being a well-known actor, Ambika has co-directed various movies in the Malayalam film industry. She has worked as an assistant director for popular movies like Rajamanikyam, Thommanum Makkalum, Vellinakshathram, Meesha Madhavan, and a few recent releases 'Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ and ‘Vellam’.
Back in 2020, Ambika Rao sought financial help to undergo dialysis at least twice a week, as she had reportedly been suffering from kidney failure since 2017. Many noted Malayalam actors and directors including Tovino Thomas, Anna Ben, and many others have taken to social media and paid tribute to the late actor. Prithviraj Sukumaran wrote, “Rest in peace Ambika Chechi. 🙏💔.” Kunchacko Boban, a well-known actor also paid homage to the actor, stating-. “Rest in everlasting peace Chechi!! 🙏🏼……Ambika Rao…..🙏🏼,”
