Who Is Tamilisai Soundararajan? Tamilisai Soundararajan who is the current and second governor of Telangana was sworn in as Lt Governor of Puducherry, the Union Territory, on Thursday. She will be the fifth woman to hold the post.
Soundararajan has been given the additional charge of the Union Territory after former IPS officer Kiran Bedi was removed from the post. She was appointed as the Governor of Telangana on 1 September 2019. Her father, Kumari Ananthan, was a Member of Parliament.

The Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee administered the oath of office. A simple function was held at the Raj Nivas.
Here are five things to know about Tamilisai Soundararajan:
- Soundararajan who was born in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu is an Indian medical doctor. Her husband is also a doctor.
- Prior to her appointment as the Governor of Telangana she was the National Secretary and Tamil Nadu State Unit President of the BJP.
- Soundararajan studied at Ethiraj College for Women and did her MBBS at Madras Medical College, Chennai. She specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology from MGR Medical University, Chennai. Further, she went to Canada for training in sonology and FET therapy.
- She worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai for five years before coming into politics.
- Soundararajan has contested two Assembly elections and Parliament elections, unsuccessfully. In the general election (2019), she lost against Kanimozhi.
