Who Was Soundarya Neeraj? Granddaughter Of BS Yediyurappa Found Dead In Bengaluru

Who is Soundarya Neeraj: In a tragic incident, the granddaughter of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa was found dead at her Bengaluru apartment on Friday. As per reports, she died by hanging. She was 30 years old.

Soundarya Neeraj was a doctor at Bengaluru's MS Ramaiah hospital. She tied the knot with a fellow doctor in 2019 and the two had a four-month-old baby.

Certain reports suggest Neeraj was suffering from postpartum depression. Her body was taken to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital where a postmortem is underway.

Evidence prima facie points to suicide, police said, as quoted in reports. The incident occurred at Vasanth Nagar, a posh locality in central Bengaluru, where Neeraj lived with her husband and baby.

Neeraj was discovered by the domestic help who came to clean the house this morning, Times of India reports. At around 10 AM, the help knocked on Neeraj's door but didn't get a response. She called Neeraj's husband who opened her bedroom door and found her hanging by the ceiling fan.

Reports suggest there is no confirmation yet on any note left behind by Neeraj. A case of unnatural death has been registered.

Yediyurappa, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has five children - three sons and two daughters. Neeraj was reportedly the daughter of Yediyurappa's oldest daughter Padma.

The High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru has taken over the investigation in Neeraj's death.

Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka's current Chief Minister, reportedly rushed to hospital to meet Yediyurappa's family when the death came to light. Home Minister Araga Dnyanendra confirmed to India Today that Neeraj's family knew she was battling postpartum depression.

"There is no suspicion. We all knew she was battling depression post pregnancy. Yediyurappa himself brought her to his place at times to make sure she's happy," Dnyanendra was quoted saying.
