Sanjukta Dutta has made a name for herself in the fashion industry. The fashion designer is known for making Mekhela Chador and Assam silk outfits. Dutta showcased her new collection "Alphool" at the New York Fashion Week on February 12, 2022.
The fashion show was attended by many Indian dignitaries such as Consul General of India, Randhir Jaiswal, Dr. Varun Jeph, Deputy Consul General of India, Senthur Kumaran, Director of India Tourism Officer, and VP of State of Bank of India Prem Lata.
The fashion designer is famous for fusing the Indian traditional designs with contemporary styles. As per reports, the each design showcased at the New York Fashion Week by Dutta were handmade in the span to minimum 25 days. The collection included Drape-Skirts, Flowy-Gowns, Indo-Western Lehengas, Mekhela Chador and other varieties. Over all the collection represented the Indian handloom for the contemporary era women.
Who Is Sanjukta Dutta?
According to reports, Dutta used to have a government job which she quit to become a fashion designer. Over time her designs have been worn by many famous actors such as Karishma Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Hema Malini, Zareen Khan and others at global events. Sajukta Dutta also designed an outfit for British Royal Kate Middleton. Prince William's wife wore that outfit on her visit to Kaziranga National Park in 2015.

Consul General of India Randhir Jaiswal praised Dutta's work at the internation fashion show and said, "When you are celebrating Sanjukta you are celebrating India. Her designs are very rich, it represents all that Assam is, all that India is."
Dutta in her statement said, "It's a dream come true and a privilege for me and my artisans to get this overwhelming opportunity to see the Assam Handloom to be recognized at The New York Fashion Week, which is one of the world's biggest fashion platforms for the designers. I am sure many closets in the US will soon find a perfect Assamese couture designed by me and I will continue to bring success in all my endless efforts to make fashion a medium of self-discovery."
Dutta was born and brought up in Assam. She did her Bachelors of Engineer from the Assam Engineering College in 1995 and worked as a Assistant Engineer with Public Works Department of Government of Assam for ten years. After quitting the government job, Dutta started her own weaving unit in Guwahati in January 2012. Apart from apparels, Dutta has also redesigned traditional Assamese jewellery such as Dug Dugi, Keru Moni and Junbiri.
