Since being the first UP minister to raise a revolt banner against the ruling BJP, Maurya has been in the news. He and his son Utkrist joined the SP, promising to work against the saffron party in the next UP Assembly elections.

After her decision to stay a BJP MP, Sanghmitra, 37, is prepared for some political turmoil in the rough and tumble of UP politics, with both her father and brother being saffron party dissidents.

Sanghmitra made headlines last year when she was called for a caste-based census during the monsoon session of Parliament, putting the ruling BJP on the defensive. When in the earlier interview she was asked about Swami Maurya she indicated that he had not joined the Samajwadi Party or any other political party and that his next move will be announced in the upcoming days.
