Who is Sagnik Chakraborty, the prime accused arrested just days after the death of Pallavi Dey. The actress was founded dead, hanging in her apartment in South Kolkata on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

Sagnik Chakraborty, the live-in partner of Pallavi Dey, has been arrested by Kolkata Police on Tuesday after an 18-hour-long questioning session. Pallavi Dey’s sudden demise had sent shockwaves throughout the Bengali tv fraternity and left her friends and fans grieving. On Sunday she was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling fan in her South Kolkata flat that she shared with her boyfriend Sagnik Chakraborty. Even though the primary investigation report declared the death a suicide, her death has raised questions.

Alleging foul play, Pallavi Dey's parents have filed a written complaint against her live-in partner Sagnik Chakraborty, and friend Oindrilla in the Garfa police station. The late actor's parents have suspected Sagnik Chakraborty and Oindrilla of murder and extortion. Police have started a thorough investigation on the matter and took her live-in partner Sagnik Chakraborty for questioning on Tuesday evening. Pallavi's family also claimed Sagnik is married and the revelation of this incident left Pallavi disheartened.

Who is Sagnik Chakraborty? More Details On The Case

Pallavi Dey reportedly lived with boyfriend Sagnik Chakraborty in a flat in South Kolkata. Sources revealed that on Sunday just before her death, the couple allegedly had a heated fight. Sagnik allegedly left the flat to buy some cigarettes and returned to find Pallavi's body hanging by the ceiling fan and then informed the police and her parents about the same.

According to Pallavi's parents, Chakraborty was allegedly cheating on her economically. On Tuesday, Pallavi's father, Nilu Dey stated, “My daughter loved Sagnik very much. Sagnik was using a luxurious car that she had gifted him. Pallavi used to give expensive gifts to Sagnik on different occasions. They had three joint bank accounts.”

Pallavi Dey's family members have also accused Sagnik of being financially dependent on the actress, forcing her to pay for his lavish lifestyle. Sagnik Chakraborty, following the complaint, has been produced to Alipore court on Wednesday and will be in police custody till May 26. Police sources revealed that some discrepancies in his statement led to his arrest.

On questioning Pallavi’s house help Salima Sardar, it has come to light that, accused Oindrila had visited Pallavi’s flat in her absence. This has brought forth an old unfortunate incident, where Sagnik's ex-girlfriend Soumi Mondal's parents had also alleged that her daughter died by suicide under similar circumstances and also spoke about Oindrilla being a big part of Sagnik's life.

Talking about the case, On Tuesday, Sagnik's ex-wife Sukanya Manya stated- “Pallavi was my friend and she was invited to my registry wedding with Sagnik. I knew him for almost 7 years and don’t think he can kill someone.”

Who is Sagnik Chakraborty? Accused of Murder and Extortion

Police sources have revealed that Sagnik Chakraborty's statement had some discrepancies that led to his arrest. Talking more about the extortion angle Police has revealed that as of right now no links to alleged murder have been found and the latter has only been arrested for financial fraud.

Revealing details the police stated -“Several inconsistencies have been found in Chakraborty’s statements regarding his work and source of income. We have found that he had closed his Salt Lake office a week before the victim died and is currently jobless. He, however, did not say this when we asked him about his profession.”

Sagnik Chakraborty has claimed to be working with a data center. He is also said to be using the name Shane in office and currently stopped going to the office ever since the Kolkata Police along with CID had begun raids against fake call centers. Police sources reveal that this is another matter that needs to be looked into.

Atul V, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the south suburban division of Kolkata police has revealed that Chakraborty has been booked under IPC sections related to murder, cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, and dishonest misappropriation of property.

Following Dey's family's allegations of Sagnik's extortion related to a new flat in Rajarhat, claiming that their daughter paid close to 57 lakhs of the total 80 lakhs, has been looked into by the police. Revealing more on the matter, they stated- "We have been provided certain evidence, which shows Pallavi might have transferred the money to Chakraborty before the payment for the flat was carried out. This will be one more angle that needs to be probed."
