Who is Saayoni Ghosh? Actor-Turned-Politician Arrested For Attempt To Murder

Actor-turned-politician Saayoni Ghosh was arrested on charges of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation. She was released on bail on November 22.

As per reports, Ghosh started to raise Trinamool Congress's election slogan 'Khela Hobe' to allegedly disrupt a meeting led by Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Deb. The police said that some people accompanying Ghosh had also hurled stones at the one's attending the meeting. Ghosh was asked to pay the bail fee of Rs 20,000 as a surety.

Saayoni Ghosh, a Bengali actor was appointed as the president of the Trinamool Congress' youth wing, earlier this year.

This happened after West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, resigned from the post as National President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress. He will now serve as the party's general secretary.

Another TMC leader, named Kunal Ghosh was made the party's state general secretary.

The latest appointments were made during a meeting held by Mamata Banerjee, who is also the chief of the Trinamool Congress.

As for Ghosh, she had earlier contested for the West Bengal elections in March this year but was defeated. She was representing the Asansol Dakshin constituency.

1. Saayoni Ghosh is a Bengali film and television actor. She is also a singer.
2. She was born on 27 January 1993 in Kolkata, West Bengal.
3. She made her debut, with the telefilm Ichhe Dana. She then appeared on the big screen, with the film 2010 comedy film Natobar Not Out.
4. Since that time, she has starred in many films such as Shotru (2011), Rajkahini (2015), Byomkesh O Chiriakhana (2016) and Meghnad Badh Rahasya (2017).
5. Saayoni Ghosh has played lead roles in many films such as Kanamachi, Antaraal, Ekla Cholo, Bitnoon, Mayer Biye, Rajkahini. 
6. She sang the 'Kothin Song', with Ash King, for the 2012 film Bojhena Shey Bojhena.
7. In 2013, and 2014, she co-hosted the Calcutta Football League for Jalsha Movies.
8. In February this year, she joined the Trinamool Congress, in the presence of Mamata Banerjee, at a party meeting in Dunlop.
9. Ghosh openly spoke about TMC leaders joining the BJP. “It is sad to see how people, who had landed important portfolios while being close to Mamata Banerjee, now switching sides. They have become the new-age Brutus, and are spreading humiliating narratives about her. Joining TMC now is my way of showing that Mamata Banerjee is not alone in her fight against fascism."
10. A police complaint was once lodged against her, by Tripura Governor and Bengal BJP leader Tathagata Roy, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Hindus. This was after she had shared a meme on Twitter.
