Who is Roshan Jacob: IAS officer Dr Roshan Jacob has been appointed the District Magistrate (DM) of Lucknow after current DM Abhishek Prakash tested positive for COVID-19, reports said on Saturday.
Jacob was appointed DM in charge, effective immediately, for COVID-19 management, ANI reported.

Who is Roshan Jacob?
1. Jacob is from Kerala. She cleared the UPSC exam in the year 2004.
2. Presently, she is also the Special Secretary and Director, Geology and Mining, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
3. The female IAS officer became the state's first woman mining director, according to reports.
4. Last year, with the efforts of Jacob, the state became the first state in the country to start mining work during the lockdown.
5. She previously served as the district magistrate of Kanpur between 2014 and 2015.
6. Jacob has taken many initiatives to empower women in the Gonda district. During her tenure in Kanpur, the city administration successfully launched MyCity — Mera Shahar Meri Dekh Rekh Me project in 2014. Under her guidance, using social media platforms, six major segments including sanitation and garbage disposal, electricity, water supply and sewerage system, had been identified. It was her effort that the authorities addressed people’s complaints relating to civic amenities.
7. Jacob takes charge in Lucknow amid the COVID-19 surge in Uttar Pradesh, which is among the top states leading a rise in the national count, alongside Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala and Karnataka.
Uttar Pradesh recently imposed a night curfew in 10 districts that reported more than 2000 active cases of COVID-19. The pandemic seems to have worsened in the state as the number of active cases is almost double the highest active caseload reported last year. On April 15, the capital city Lucknow reported 35,865 active cases with other cities such as Prayagraj and Varanasi reporting 13,237 and 11,562 cases respectively.
