Who is Rosangela Lula da Silva?
After a contentious election on Sunday in which the two candidates were in a close race, Lula da Silva was elected as Brazil's new president, defeating Jair Bolsonaro. Da Silva received 50.9% of the vote, while Bolsonaro received 49% after more than 99.9% of the votes had been counted in the runoff election.

The new president has been married three times. In 1969, he married Maria de Lourdes, who passed away from hepatitis in 1971. With his then-girlfriend Miriam Cordeiro, Lula gave birth to a daughter named Lurian in 1974. They were never married. Lula married Marisa Leticia Rocco Casa, a widow with whom he had three sons, in 1974. Marisa passed away from a stroke in 2017 after a 43-year marriage to Lula.   • Rosangela Lula da Silva is a Brazilian sociologist better known by her nickname Janja. In the state of Paraná's Unio da Vitória, she was born on August 27, 1966. During her childhood, she relocated to Curitiba.
  • In 1983, she joined the Workers' Party. She studied social science at the Federal University of Paraná in 1990 and pursued a history specialization there.
  • She began working for Itaipu Binacional on January 1, 2005, where she served as the director-assistant general and programme coordinator for initiatives supporting sustainable development.
  • She served as the hydroelectric power plant's Director-assistant General and managed activities backed by sustainable development. From 2012 until 2016, she was the institutional affairs and communications advisor for Eletrobras in Rio de Janeiro. She went back to Itaipu in 2016. On January 1st, 2020, she formally quit the company.
  • When Lula da Silva was imprisoned in Curitiba, Paraná, on corruption-related accusations, she first met him. Later, the accusations against Lula were dismissed.
