Who Is Rehnuma Bhati? Woman Accuses Hardik Pandya, Other Personalities Of Rape

Who is Rehnuma Bhati: A woman, who is the wife of a suspected aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has alleged she was forced into sex with prominent names from cricket, including sportsmen Hardik Pandya and Munaf Patel. According to reports, she lodged a complaint with the Santacruz police last month in the matter. A First Information Report (FIR) in the case hasn't yet been registered.

Identified as Rehnuma Bhati, she claims in her complaint that her husband Riyaz has coerced her into prostitution for over 15 years. He allegedly has sensitive material, including photos and videos, to blackmail her with and has threatened he will kill their two children if she doesn't comply with his demands. More here.

Besides Pandya and Patel, she has reportedly also named Rajeev Shukla, the former chair of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a politician of the Indian National Congress (INC).

The case is being investigated but ANI, quoting sources, reports no evidence has been found to support Bhati's allegations. She has reportedly not divulged details, such as of time and place, in her rape complaint. Bhati claims she has approached police authorities multiple times in regard to the alleged forced sex work.

Bhati's complaint, as per The Print, also alleges marital rape by her husband Riyaz. She mentions "unnatural sexual activities" committed against her by a cricketer and his friends under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Her complaint also states she was allegedly stripped naked, assaulted and harassed before a former union minister who raped her.

Her husband is a noted criminal and has been booked multiple times in the past, including for cases of forgery, extortion and firing. Reports suggest authorities have apprehended him at airports on several occasions when he tried to flee India in evasion of the law. Most prominent, Riyaz is named in the 2021 case of alleged extortion involving Mumbai ex-cops Param Bir Singh and Sachin Vaze.

Bhati's allegations of rape against him, Pandya and others comes in the middle of an unfolding political spat in Mumbai between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis. Malik in a press conference earlier this week claimed there were links between Fadnavis and Riyaz.

Meanwhile, on social media, BJP leaders led trends demanding the arrest of Shukla, saying Bhati deserved justice. Party MLAs in Uttar Pradesh Avadhesh Singh and Bamba Lal Diwakar weighed in on the issue on Twitter.
