With its first-time participation in the Madhya Pradesh municipal elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did well. Rani Agarwal of the AAP was elected mayor of Singrauli, defeating BJP contender Prakash Vishwakarma by 9,352 votes. The third-placed Congress party was demoted.
Arvind Chandel, a candidate for the Congress, obtained 24,60 votes, BJP received 24,879 votes, and AAP received 34,038 votes overall. One year from the 2023 Assembly elections, Agrawal's triumph has given the Madhya Pradesh AAP cadre some much-needed motivation.
Who Is Rani Agarwal
Rani Aggarwal, a native of Haryana, is a prominent figure in the local wood business but has a long history of involvement in politics and social work. Singrauli has served as mayor and as a sarpanch and district panchayat member. In the Singrauli district's Devsar Janpad Panchayat, Ramniwas Agarwal, the father-in-law of Rani Agarwal, has also served as president.
Kejriwal wrote to her in a tweet, saying, “I congratulate Singrauli mayor elections winning candidate Rani Agrawal Ji, other winners and party workers. You should continue to work hard for the people. The people across the country are liking the honest politics of the Aam Aadmi Party.”
11 municipal corporations, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Sagar, Satna, Singrauli, Chhindwara, Khandwa, Burhanpur, and Ujjain, conducted elections for mayor. There are a total of 101 candidates running for mayor. On July 20, the results of the second round of the MP municipal elections will be tallied.
In terms of revenue, the Singrauli Municipal Corporation is the second-richest municipal corporation in the state behind Indore. A hub for coal and mineral mining as well as the state's primary source of power is the Singrauli district.

In Madhya Pradesh's 11 civic councils where recent mayoral elections were held, the BJP has so far won in Burhanpur, Satna, Khandwa, and Sagar, while the AAP has only won once, in Singrauli. One seat has been gained by Congress so far.
