Radha Vembu is a force to reckon with when it comes to software and entrepreneurship. Chennai-based Vembu, who co-founded multinational tech firm Zoho Corporation way back in 1996, has emerged as one of India's richest self-made billionaires. According to the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, Radha Vembu leads the women's list with Rs 47,500 crore, followed by Falguni Nayar of Nykaa.
With its headquarters in Chennai, Zoho Corp is now counted as a global leader that offers software solutions, with a current revenue of Rs 8,703 crore.
Who Is Radha Vembu?
51-year-old Vembu was born in 1972. Her father worked as a stenographer at the Madras High Court. She graduated from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a degree in industrial management.
Vembu, along with her brothers Sridhar Vembu and Sekar Vembu, founded Zoho Corp. in 1996. The company was initially named AdvenNet but was later renamed Zoho Corporation. Sridhar Vembu is the well-known face of Zoho Corp., while Sekar Vembu keeps a low profile.
Radha Vembu, Zoho’s product manager for mail service, heads a team of about 250 people. She is also the director of the Corpus Foundation. The MNC also has its headquarters located in Austin, Texas.
According to reports, the company has over 6 crore users and is present in nine countries around the world. Zoho, which is also known for its cloud-based business software, is currently beta testing a WhatsApp rival called "Arattai," which means chat in Tamil.
Radha Vembu is also the director of an agricultural NGO called Janaki Hi-Tech Agro Pvt. Ltd. and a real estate company called Highland Valley Corporation Pvt. Ltd. Vembu completed her schooling at the National Higher Secondary School in Chennai. She is married and has one child. She is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and keeps herself away from the limelight.
