The wedding will see the princess officially give up her title for love and the newlyweds will reportedly move to the United States where Komuro works as a lawyer. The princess has reportedly even declined a payout, offered to royals marrying outside the family, worth $1.2 million and will also forgo many royal wedding rituals.

Instances of Princess Mako involving herself up close in social matters of her country - such as with volunteer programs for the disadvantaged and advocacy for deaf people - have earned her the goodwill of her people.
She studied together with Komuro at the International Christian University in Japan. In 2017, it was reported the two would marry a year later. However, a financial dispute in the Komuro household stopped the wedding bells from ringing. According to the BBC, the issue was linked to Komuro's mother allegedly not repaying a loan from her ex-fiance.
As Markle was by the British press, Komuro is hounded by tabloids in Japan that treat his life and relationship with Princess Mako as nothing less than a scandal.
Reports of Princess Mako's mental health suffering owing to how her relationship with Komuro is received by the press have previously done rounds. Local media quoting Japan's Imperial Household Agency claim she faces post-traumatic stress disorder.
