Who Is Noorbina Rasheed: Noorbina Rasheed is a politician and the leader of the women’s wing in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
She is also the first female candidate to contest for elections from IUML in 25 years. Rasheed will be contesting the election from the Kozhikode South constituency for the Kerala assembly elections of April 2021.
When speaking about her being the first female candidate from IUML in 25 years, Rasheed told reporters that “There were allegations that women were not given importance in our party. This is a reply to them. I will take up the responsibility and fulfil my duties towards the voters.”
IUML’s first female candidate was Khamarunnisa Anwar who contested the election in 1996 from the Kozhikode South constituency. She lost to a CPI(M) candidate and since then there has been no female candidate from IUML till Noorbina Rasheed.
Who Is Noorbina Rasheed?
Rasheed is the National General Secretary of the Muslim League and a member of the State Secretariat. She is also lawyer and a former councillor of the Kozhikode Corporation. IUML also considered Jayanthi Rajan and Suhara Mambadu but ultimately Rasheed was chosen to contest for the Kerala assembly elections.
While speaking to The Hindu, Noorbina Rasheed stated that the Vanitha League (women’s wing of IUML) did not exert any pressure on the party to field a woman. The decision was made by the party leaders voluntarily and she added that “I am thankful to the party for this opportunity.”
