19-year-old Maitri Patel recently became the youngest commercial pilot in India. Her success at such a young age is the result of her labour and her parents sacrifice.
For her father who is a farmer in Olpad area near Suraj, Gujarat, sending her to America was not easy in terms of the heavy cost of the course. As someone who used to transport passengers, Patel's father had seen many planes land and lift off the earth's surface. Moved by his little girl's dreams, her father sold a piece of his land to fund her training. He also made sure to put Patel through private school, as per reports.
She has completed her schooling from Metas Adventist School in Surat and left for United States to complete her training after that.
During an interview with India Today, Maitri Patel said, "When I was 8-year-old, I saw a pilot and a plane for the first time. Since then I have dreamt of becoming a pilot. After completing class 12th with science, I went to America for training. I finished my 11-month long training and became a commercial pilot."
