While it is common for politicians to make snide and trolling comments on their rivals, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is facing a lot of criticism for making a controversial statement about President Biden on Twitter. On January 6, Boebert reportedly quoted The Bible in order to target Biden during her speech in a church in Texas.
She read out Psalm 109 from The Bible which calls for untimely death of an enemy and her reportedly said, "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. Who Is Lauren Boebert?
- Lauren Boebert is a 37-years-old American Congresswoman, who serves as the representative of Colorado's third congressional district.
- Born and brought up in Florida, Boebert's family moved places when she was 12 and finally settled in Rifles, Colorado.
- Boebert has always been a controversial politician and is a popular for advocating gun rights and being against non-heterosexual marriages, green energy, abortion, Covid-19 masks and sex education. Though she denies it, she is often seen supporting far-right extremist ideas and is also a supporter of former US President Donald Trump.
- Boebert started working in 2004 after dropping out from her senior year in high school when she got pregnant. She began working at McDonald's and after her marriage in 2007, she took up the job of a pipeliner at a natural gas drilling company.
- She and her husband opened a restaurant in 2013 called Shooters Grill where her employees were allowed to carry guns openly. She caught limelight in 2019 for her confrontation with Beto O'Rourke over semi-automatic rifles policy and organised a rally to protest against red flag law in Colorado. In 2020, she stood for elections for representative of Colorado third congressional district and won.
Lauren Boebert's Texas church speech is receiving backlash for being unacceptable on the part of a politician. A Twitter user wrote, "Lauren Boebert’s disgusting death-prayer is neither unique or surprising. In fact, using The Bible to threat, injure and diminish kind people is pretty standard these days."
Another one wrote, "Question, What kind of a Christian prays for someone’s death? Answer, the Lauren Boebert kind. What happens to a person for them to feel so hurt that this degree of hate drives them, even in prayer?". In the video of her speech, the audience can be seen laughing and clapping on her remarks which is being criticised by viewers.
