Who is Khush Seerat Kaur Sandhu: A teen shooter who secured multiple medals for India internationally reportedly died by suicide at her home in Faridkot, Punjab, reports said Friday. She was 17 and, as per her parents, did not deliver the best performance at the national shooting championship this year. Police have not recovered a suicide note.

Sandhu is confirmed to have died of a gunshot wound to the head, police said, which she inflicted with her licensed .22 pistol. A call to the police informing them of the death was made in the early hours of Thursday.

Reports suggest Sandhu was on the ground floor where her grandmother slept, while both her parents were sleeping upstairs on the first floor.

The girl's father, speaking to the Indian Expresssaid "she did not betray any visible signs of disappointment" and had she expressed what she was feeling, could have been counseled.

Know Who Is Khush Seerat Kaur Sandhu: Young Shooter Ends Her Life

Sandhu took an interest in swimming but soon moved to pursue shooting professionally. She brought in many medals in 2019, including a gold, across air pistol and pistol shooting events at championships. She was on the Punjab team. She represented India in Peru at a junior championship this year.

In the recently concluded 64th National Shooting Championship, Sandhu did not win an individual medal but the team reportedly won a medal in one of the events.

Her coach, calling her death "tragic," said Sandhu was sad after the team returned to Punjab from Delhi after the national championship.

Earlier this year in September, shooter Namanveer Singh Brar was also found dead at his home in Mohali in a case of alleged suicide. A national-level sportsman, Brar was 28 and reportedly ended his life with a licensed pistol. His pregnant wife and other family members were at home at the time. Reasons for his death were not made clear though the shooter was said to have been distressed.
