Who Is Kasia Gallanio? Ex-Wife of Qatar Prince Found Dead

Kasia Gallanio was the ex-wife of Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Prince of Qatar. Gallanio was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in her home on 29 May 2022 amid her legal battle against Al-Thani for custody of their children.

Kasia Gallanio was the third wife of Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the uncle of the Emir of Qatar. She was born in Poland but grew up in Los Angeles, California, United States. She met Al-Thani after he was exiled to Paris in 1992 for allegedly attempting to overthrow the Emir. Al-Thani had served as the oil minister and minister of finance before his exile.

Who Is Kasia Gallanio?

In 2004, Al-Thani and Gallanio got married and had three daughters, Sheikha Malak, Sheika Yasim, and Sheikha Reem. In 2007, she created a company for luxury gift items named Savoir-Faire.com. The company voluntarily liquidated in 2010.

Gallanio had reportedly discovered fraudulent activity on her ex-husband’s account at Barclays Bank that lead to legal action. Barclays later settled the fraud claim with an undisclosed amount.

Gallanio and Al-Thani separated in 2012 and had a high-profile custody battle over their three children. Gallanio accused Al-Thani of sexually abusing of one of their daughters. Al-Thani denied the allegations.

Gallanio resided in Marbella, Spain while Al-Thani resided in Paris with their children.

French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Kasia Gallio died at the age of 45 after a suspected drug overdose. The paper also reported that on May 19, a Paris court that dismissed Gallanio’s custody demands.

Reportedly, police went to Gallanio’s residence after she did not respond to her daughter's calls for several days. First responders said that they suspect she died of a drug overdose. The police have opened an investigation into the circumstances around her demise and are looking into possible links to her custody battle with ex-husband Al-Thani.

French papers reported that Gallanio had suffered from depression, alcoholism, and nervous breakdowns. Louis Spagnuolo, a friend of Gallaio reportedly told the Spanish newspaper Olive Press that Gallanio was “dead against drugs and was never an alcoholic”. He also said that “She loved her daughters beyond belief and would never leave them”.
