Garima Abrol, wife of late squadron leader Samir Abrol has passed out from Air Force Academy to take on the role of flying officer. Her husband Samir Abrol was killed after his Mirage fighter aircraft crashed during takeoff at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport in Bengaluru.

Eight Things To Know About Garima Abrol

  1. Abrol before joining the Indian Air Force was a dance fitness trainer and Prowl trainer in Bengaluru city
  2. Her husband Samir Abrol died on February 1 while test-flying a Mirage 2000 trainer aircraft. Samir Abrol and Siddhartha Negi died after their plane crashed with a huge explosion soon after taking off inside the HAL airport. Negi's wife is an IAF officer and she had been posted in Bengaluru when the accident occurred.
  3. After the death of her husband, she took the decision to join the Air Force.
  4. Five months after her husband's death, she cracked the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview in July 2019.
  5. Abrol joined the Air Force Academy in Dundigal. Her course commenced at the IAF academy in January 2020.
  6. On Saturday, the  'President's Commission' was conferred on Garima after she completed her professional training.
  7. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conferred the position and honour to the graduating Flying Cadets including Garima at a Combined Graduation Parade.
  8. Garima was amongst the 21 graduating officers.
