Elavenil Valaviran made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games 2020 and is all set to win a medal for India in Paris. The 24-year-old sport shooter is participating in the women's 10m air rifle and the 10m air rifle mixed team (with Sandeep Singh) categories. The duo placed 12th in the event on July 27. Valaviran has won 14 gold medals, five silvers, and a bronze in her career. She became a professional shooter in 2014 and has won many medals at the junior level too. Valarivan was also honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2022.
Who Is Elavenil Valarivan?
Hailing from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Valaviran's interest in shooting began when she won a shooting event in school. After going professional in 2014, she enrolled herself in the Guns for Glory (GFG) Academy, which was opened by Olympic bronze medalist Gagan Narang and has trained eight Olympians.

Valarivan clinched her first gold medal at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney, securing a score of 249.8. Months later, she made it to the top ranks and earned a direct qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 2019, the athlete grabbed her first senior-level medal when she won gold at the 2019 World Cup.

Valarivan has won a gold medal and a silver at the World Championships in her career. She has five World Cup gold medals and one silver in the same. She has two gold medals from the Asian Airgun Championships and two silvers. She also boasts a silver from the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships, which she won in Doha.
