Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will be marrying Dr Gurpreet Kaur on July 7 at his residence in Chandigarh. The ceremony will be attended by Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national chairperson Arvind Kejriwal, according to reports.
The marriage between Bhagwant Mann and Dr Gurpreet Kaur marks the Punjab CM’s second marriage. Mann and his first wife Inderpreet Kaur got divorced in 2015 and she then left India and began residing in the United Kingdom.
Mann and his ex-wife have two children together, a son and a daughter. The children Dilshan Mann and Seerat Kaur Mann reside with their mother in the UK. After Mann was elected as Chief Minister of Punjab, the two children flew to India and attended their father’s swearing-in ceremony at Khatkar Kalan.
The reasons behind Mann’s first marriage ending in divorce have not been confirmed. Reportedly, after Mann was unable to set aside enough time for his family after becoming a political figure and the couple separated.
Mann is a poet, volleyball player, and former actor who was born on October 17, 1973. He was chosen as the AAP candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab ahead of the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly Elections.
Who Is Dr Gurpreet Kaur?
- The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to marry Dr Gurpreet Kaur (32) tomorrow, July 7, 2022. The marriage will take place in a close private ceremony at Mann’s residence in Chandigarh.
- Reportedly, the bride Gurpreet Kaur is a doctor and is close to Mann’s family, as they have known each other for a long period. According to the report, Kaur and her family frequently visited his residence. Mann’s family wanted him to remarry and took part in arranging the marriage and choosing the bride.
- Dr Gurpreet's family, according to an NDTV report, belongs to Kurukshetra's Pehwa locality. Her father, Inderjit Singh is a farmer. Her mother Mata Raj Kaur is a homemaker. She, reportedly, has two sisters who live abroad.
- Her uncle, Gurinder Jeet, told NDTV that Gurpreet, an alumna of Mullana Medical College, was good at her studies and also was a gold medallist. The report also noted that Gurpreet also helped Mann during his campaign for the Punjab assembly elections.
Reportedly, Bhagwant Mann and Dr Gurpreet Kaur have known each other for four years and met in 2019.
The 32-year-old Kaur is from Pehowa, Haryana and their family shifted to Mohali, Punjab. She is the youngest of three sisters, her sister Navneet Kaur Neeru lives in America and her other sister Kamaljeet Kaur Gaggu resides in Australia.
According to Kaur’s family’s neighbours, she completed her MBBS from Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU) in Ambala. She is currently working as a physician. Mann and Kaur’s marriage will be solemnized at a Gurudwara as per the traditional Anand Karaj, in accordance with Sikh rituals.
