Bollywood actor and newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, was reportedly slapped by The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Constable at Chandigarh airport on Thursday, June 6. The incident has sparked widespread controversy and raised concerns about security protocols and political tensions.
Who Is CISF Constable Kulwinder Kaur?
The CISF constable, Kulwinder Kaur, allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut due to remarks the actor made during the farmers' protests in 2020. In a viral video, Kaur expressed her anger, stating, "My mother was there," referring to Ranaut's controversial statement that women participating in the farmers' protest were paid ₹100 each to sit on the Delhi borders.
Kaur, visibly upset, said, "Kangana said women were sitting in the farmers' protests for ₹100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made that remark."
Following the incident, Kulwinder Kaur has been suspended and now faces a police case. According to an NDTV report, the constable has been arrested as of June 7, though the official police statement is still pending. CISF, responsible for providing security at airports, has ordered a court of inquiry into the matter.
Reports indicate that Kaur belongs to a family of farmers and joined the CISF in 2009. She has been with the aviation security group at Chandigarh Airport since 2021 and has no previous record of misconduct. Her husband also works at the same airport.
Reaction from the National Commission for Women
National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma has called for strict action against Kulwinder Kaur. Sharma stated that the incident is a serious matter, highlighting the breach of security by those responsible for maintaining it. She tweeted, "Strict action should be taken against the lady CISF personnel. We at @NCWIndia have taken up this matter with @CISFHQrs."
