Who Is Bushra Al Taweel: Female Palestinian journalist, Bushra Al-Taweel, has been released by Israeli occupation authorities. She was held in administrative detention for 11 months. The Israeli army arrested her while she was passing through a military checkpoint last November.

Here's what you should know about Bushra Al-Taweel

  • She is a Palestinian journalist. Besides that, she is a former Palestinian prisoner and prisoners' rights activist from Ramallah.
  • She is also the spokesperson for the local news agency Aneen Al-Qaid Media Network. It is specialized in covering news about the Palestinian detainees and political prisoners. This network was established on 29 June 2013 by a group of ex-detainees.
  • Bushra graduated from the Modern University College in Ramallah in 2013.  She studied journalism and photography.
  • Bushra documents the continued violations committed against Palestinian prisoners. She also documents the continued violations committed against Palestinian prisoners and organizes different events that aim to raise awareness about their rights and support them and their families. For this reason, she is also considered to be a human rights defender.
  • She has been arrested multiple times. She was first arrested when she was 18-years-old on 6 July 2011. She was again arrested on 2 July 2014 and then on 1 November 2017.
  • Jamal al-Tawil, her father, is a prominent Hamas leader. He is also the former mayor of Al-Bireh. He was in prison for many years.
  • Bushra’s mother was also arrested on 8 February 2010. She spent a year in detention and was released on 1 February 2011.
  • Bushra Al-Taweel has three brothers.
  • She is married to Mohammed al-Tawil. He has been imprisoned since August 19, 2002. He is serving nine life sentences in Israeli prisons, as per reports.
