The result for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections 2022 was released on December 7 in which Aam Aadmi Party won with a whopping 134 out of 250 seats. Amid the many councillors selected to look after the development of Delhi, Bobby Kinnar became the first-ever transgender councillor for MCD.

Defeating Bharatiya Janta Party for the first time in 15 years, Arvind Kejriwal's AAP dominated the MCD elections while BJP grabbed a minority of 104 seats. Winning from Sultanipuri-A ward, Bobby Kinnar made history by becoming the first-ever transgender councillor in Delhi. Fondly known as 'Bobby Darling' by the residents of Sultanpur Majra, 38-year-old Bobby Kinnar has worked majorly in the area and helped children in the area to acquire admissions in school. Owing to her efforts put in for the betterment of the people, she was selected as the candidate for MCD elections and ended up becoming a prominent win for AAP.

Who Is Bobby Kinnar?

Born and brought up in Sultanpur area of Delhi, Bobby Kinnar was harassed and bullied in school because of this she had to drop out after 9th. She was given away to a guru by her family at the age of 15 and that's when she joined the transgender community. She used to sing and dance at weddings and other occasions to earn a living. At the age of 22 years, she decided to join an NGO to continue her education and to help the underprivileged children and other transgenders in need. She told that after her father's death, she is still in touch with her mother and siblings who, too, worked odd jobs to make a living.

In 2011, Bobby Kinnar joined Anna Hazare in his anti-corruption movement in Delhi and got acquainted with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Her political journey had many incidents of verbal abuse and demeaning comments but she never let that get in the way of what she wanted to do. She set up a charity in which transgenders donated money that is spent on helping the poor to get ration, assisting women who are caught in bad marriages and providing financial assistance to poor shop owners. Since the last 15 years, she has been working as the president of Hindu Yuva Samaj Ekta Awam Terrorism Protodhi Samiti.

In 2017, she contested elections in Delhi as an independent candidate but could not win. She has been constantly working towards the welfare of people in Sultanpuri and finally got recognised for her efforts. Bobi Kinnar contested the elections from the Sultanpuri-A ward and won against Congress' Varuna Dhaka with a margin of 6,714 votes. She has reportedly said that she aims to focus on ways to beautify and clean the area in which she was born and brought up.
