In a viral video circulating on the internet, a group of four persons, including two women, are seen assaulting a woman and her daughter with sticks at a residential area in Shalimar Bagh area of northwest Delhi.
In the video, which is a ">CCTV camera footage, the woman is seen stepping out of car, she is then punched and beaten up with sticks. According to a report by ANI, the incident took place on November 19. The Delhi Police has reportedly filed an FIR against unknown persons based on the complaint by the woman.
The police then arrested two women after the FIR was lodged. The complainant woman has alleged that Aam Aadmi Party MLA Bandana Kumar was involved in the assault. The MLA has denied the allegations.
Who Is Bandana Kumari?
Kumari represents Shalimar Bagh area of Delhi as an MLA at the assembly since 2013. She was earlier the President of AAP's women's wing and then also served as the Deputy Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly.
She belongs to Muzaffarpur in Bihar where she also completed her bachelor's degree from the B.R Ambedkar Bihar University in 1994. She lives in Shalimar Bagh with her husband and son.
She has raised issues of women’s safety and empowerment through her political tenure by seeking to introduce measures, such as public vehicle reservations for women and senior citizens.

- As per reports, Usha Rangnani, DCP of north-west district said that the two accused women arrested in the case are Megha (22) and Neha (20). She said that the two others are currently absconding and the police is looking for them.
- As per the complaint filed by the woman, a group of four persons attacked her and her daughter when they were returning from Pitampura.
- In the FIR, the woman alleged, "Two women first snatched my daughter’s phone and started beating her. When I stepped out of my car, two men also came and started assaulting me. They assaulted us with sticks and an iron rod… They robbed my gold chain, ring and molested me."
- She added that she was screaming for help and her neighbours screamed from their balcony. That is when the accused persons escaped the scene.
- The woman also alleged that two of the accused women were known to Bandana Kumari.
- In her statement, Kumari denied the allegations and called them baseless. She said, "She stays in my neighbourhood, but I don’t know her."
