Chhattisgarh teacher Anupa Das won rupees one crore on the popular television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 12. With that, she also became the third woman after Nazia Nasim, a communications manager, and IPS officer Mohita Sharma to become a crorepati during this season of the show.The show is hosted by actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Here are ten things you should know about Anupa Das:
1. Das hails from Jagdalpur, Bastar in Chhatisgarh. She is a teacher by profession and is said to have applied to appear on the show to win money for her mother, who is a cancer patient.
2. Das, who has moved to Mumbai for her mother's treatment, also revealed to Bachchan that it took her 20 years to come on the show.
3. The 42-year-old’s confidence impressed Bachchan, who even called her performance an “extraordinary” one.
4. Post her win, Das said that being called a “crorepati” is an "indescribable" feeling. “I am coming to terms with it. Being on the show has completely changed my life. People’s attitude towards me and every little thing around me has changed, for the better,” she said.
5. Further opening up about her life, Das shared that she got divorced after just a month after getting married and has been living with her parents since. She has two younger sisters who are also married and that her brothers-in-law are more like siblings to her.
6. Last year, her mother was diagnosed with stage three cancer. Das wanted to win the prize money so that she can help her family meet her mother's medical expenses. “My family and I have had a really hard time as majority of the money was spent in hospitals. Now, all that I have is theirs. Everything that I have earned on the show is going to go towards supporting my family," she expressed.
7. During the episode, Das also revealed that she always advises her students to watch KBC as she feels it will increase their general knowledge.
8. Coming from a modest background, Das is the third woman in a row to become a crorepati in KBC 12.
9. After her big win, Bachchan called up her ailing mother and informed her about it.
10. This season of KBC has only seen three crorepatis so far and all of them are women contestants.
