Who Is Anna Sorokin?
- The German woman who is originally from Russia went by the fictitious identity of Anna Delvey.
- Sorokin moved to New York City in 2013 and told her friends and acquaintances that she had a trust fund of 60 million euros in overseas banks. She stated that her trust fund would cover her hotel stays and lavish lifestyle.
- She was known for staying at lavish hotels and eating at James Beard Award winning restaurants.
- Sorokin’s friends and travelling companions would pay a large amount or the entire amount for the trips they took. She would claim her wallet was with her luggage or would guilt her companions into paying when her credit card was declined.
- Sorokin wouldn’t pay her companions back and would blame it on a difficulty in moving her assets from her ‘overseas’ bank accounts and blame her forgetfulness.
- Sorokin was arrested on six charges of grand larceny for allegedly scamming wealthy acquaintances and hotels in 2017. She initially faced three counts of misdemeanour theft of services.
- According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, the thefts totalled around $275,000.
- Sorokin was released from prison on February 11, 2021.
