The United Kingdom is preparing a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year-reign. The Platinum Jubilee celebrations that will kick start this weekend will see millions of UK residents readying feasts of cucumber and coronation sandwiches and whatnot. The monarch’s accession to the throne will be marked with carnivalesque celebrations including state-of-art technology displays, and a series of events with special performances.
A UK-based actor of Indian-Fiji descent is all set with a special Bollywood-themed Wedding party with a four-tier cake which will play hit Hindi film songs and a specially designed saree to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee celebrations outside Buckingham Palace in London.
Actor Ajay Chhabra, who was last seen in Indian films Bell Bottom and 83, with this Nutkhut performance company was chosen to represent the Commonwealth theme from a South Asian perspective for the grand celebrations on Sunday, June 5.
The 51-year-old told media that he took inspiration from the Queen’s royal wedding with Prince Philip for the cake’s centrepiece and that each tier will represent the Silver, Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilees of the monarch's reign.

The actor was quoted saying, “Seventy years ago, my mother, nine years old at the time, welcomed the Queen to Fiji; a 10,000-mile journey resulted in her and three generations of women in my family making London their home. Seventy years on, my daughter, now nine years old, will celebrate and participate in our section of the Pageant for Her Royal Highness. This intergenerational family story lives on.”
Who Is Ajay Chhabra?
Chhabra is a British television and theatre actor, director, producer and comedian of Indo-Fijian heritage. Born in November 1970, the actor is best known for his stint as Anil in the children’s show The Basil Brush Show.
Ajay is Artistic Director Nutkhut, the performance group that will be present at the Platinum Jubilee celebration. He is also the founder of the London Mela which is Europe’s largest South Asian festival.
The alumnus of Westminster Hotel School and Goldsmiths College, University of London, he was working in the hotel and events sector before becoming an actor.
Chhabra is a board member of The Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN) and also a member of the Mayor of London Cultural Leadership Board.
