Megxit? Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Seek To Extend "Megxit" For Another Year

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly seeking an extension to their 12-month “Megxit” deal that allows them to be non-working royals.

The couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are staying away from their Royal duties for a lot longer. They are seeking an extension to their 12-month Megxit deal that would allow them to continue as non-working royals in California along the West Coast of United States.

As reported by The Sun, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to meet with senior royals over Zoom in January, 2021 before Harry travels to the UK which depends on COVID restrictions, to seal the plan and course in the future.

Harry and Meghan’s current deal is set to expire on March 31, 2021. This deal with Buckingham Palace allows Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to hold on to their royal patronages, or charity support duties.

On 8 January 2020, Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex announced on Instagram that they have decided to "step back as 'senior' members" of the British royal family. They will be splitting their time between U.K. and North America to become financially independent. This event was dubbed as Megxit and the term also became adopted globally on social and news media. 

Megxit, this term came to signify the break by the couple from the British royal family and its former protocol. The word was used so much in the year 2020 globally that Collins English Dictionary added Megxit to its online edition as a top-ten Word of 2020.

The Sun reported that the the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keen to hold on to their patronages. Markle’s patronages include organisations that promote women’s empowerment, universal education and animal welfare.

However, Prince Harry’s include his title as president of the African Parks nonprofit conservation charity and the Invictus Games foundation. Prince Harry is also hoping to regain the honorary military posts that were stripped from him during Megxit.

Recently, Prince Harry and Markle also secured deals with Netflix and Spotify each worth $100 million and $30 million. Senior royals will be scrutinising these deals to make sure they meet “the values of Her Majesty.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to return to U.K. for Queen Elizabeth II’s 95th birthday in April, also in June for Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday and for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana on July 1.
