In May this year, a 23-year-old woman from Tripura died by suicide after she was allegedly paraded naked over accusations of an extramarital affair. Four people were arrested by the police on charges of abetting the suicide. News reports suggest that an obscene video of the woman was displayed on a big screen at the local market following which people of the area assembled in front of her house. The villagers allegedly trimmed her hair, forced her to wear a garland of shoes and paraded her naked across the village after tying her rope.
