Congress party hasn't officially acknowledged her departure from the party yet. Sources have indicated her unhappiness with the Congress leadership for the past few months. It reportedly brewed over the decision to tie up with the AIUDF in the April-May state elections. Dev earlier had a disagreement with the state party leadership over the choice of poll candidates. She reported had decided to move on from the party in March but was persuaded by the central party leadership to stay on. The recent Assam-Mizoram border clashes near Barak Valley was reportedly the last straw as she didn't approve of the party's stance.
Sushmita Dev was recently in the news after her Twitter account was suspended. The microblogging site blocked her tweet with images of the parents of a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Delhi’s Cantt area. The young Dalit girl was then hastily cremated against her mother’s will. The aforementioned images were first posted by Rahul Gandhi.
