The minor girl studies in Class 12, according to a report. She hails from Palashipara in West Bengal. The two befriended each other on Facebook. Shaikh, a resident of Mira Road, pretended to be a young event manager to win her trust. In fact, he had used his son’s photo as his display picture on Facebook to quell any doubts that the girl would have.
The two starting chatting regularly on Facebook. He told her that he would escort her to Mumbai and help her meet Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan at his residence in Bandra. Later, he told her that his father would accompany him since he had contracted Covid-19 infection. He did this to hide his real age and make her believe that she was speaking to a young man only.
On July 15, Shaikh arrived in Palashipara to meet the girl. He brought her to Kolkata and then the duo boarded the Howrah Mail to Mumbai. He destroyed her sim card also. On being alerted by the girl's parents, West Bengal Police began their searching spree. They saw the CCTV footage through which they could spot the girl boarding a train from Howrah Junction. They quickly informed Mumbai GRP as they could figure out that CSMT was the train's last station.
The team intercepted her and Shaikh on Sunday and rescued the girl. The West Bengal police has taken her home. Her alleged trafficker was also handed over to West Bengal Police officials for investigation.
