Mufasa's Rise To Royalty
Barry Jenkins, the Oscar-winning filmmaker, made the announcement at the global Disney fan gathering D23 Expo. This film will be the prequel to the 2019 feature The Lion King. Jenkins shared on stage how the film will surface Mufasa's journey from being a cub to become the Lion King. The journey, which involves Mufasa becoming an orphan as a result of a devastating flood, will also show what made Mufasa an honest, hardworking and dutiful king.
"Mufasa, an orphan who had to traverse the world by himself and by recounting the story, we get to experience Mufasa's authentic journey to find his place in the circle of life," explained Jenkins.
Interestingly, the audience will also get to see younger versions of characters Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa in the film. Directed by Jenkins, the film is written by Jeff Nathanson. Aaron Pierre will be playing Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will play Scar in the upcoming prequel.
