VK Sasikala quits: In a letter written to her followers and members of the AIADMK party, VK Sasikala announced on Wednesday that she is going to quit politics.
This comes after her return to public life after spending four years in prison. She had been convicted of corruption in 2017. The letter announcing her departure was written in Tamil.
Sasikala told her followers, that the party members should see defeating "common enemy DMK" as their target. She mentioned the late CM J Jayalalithaa and said, " I thank all followers and supporters of 'Amma'".She also said, " I have never gone after power or prestige".
She further continued and said that she is going to meet the cadre and the public very soon. In the letter, Sasikala referred to the late Jayalalithaa as her 'sister'.
The news of her departure is in contrast to her earlier statements. Just a few days after her return from prison, Sasikala had said that she is going to come back to politics and that she will not be oppressed by her enemies. "I will definitely take part in serious politics," she had said. Many thought that Sasikala was making her political intentions clear by making the statement.
Sasikala was a close aide to late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and had taken her place after her death. Soon Sasikala was convicted and was sent to jail. Read more about her here.
