VK Sasikala Political Comeback: The former AIADMK general secretary and close aide of late J Jayalalithaa now seems to be planning to come back to active politics. Amma's close aide had surprised many earlier this year when she said that she will step aside from active politics but now with the leaked audio tapes situations seems to be changing.
With the differences between AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam making news many, in the party, sources close to Sasikala, have indicated that she may make a comeback. It has been reported that Sasikala has made several calls to people close to her in the party in different districts. Audio tapes of some of these calls have found their way to social media and where she reportedly speaks about returning to the party. She was also heard consoling the party members. “I will come and set right things in the party and take it on thalaivar’s and amma’s path. So many of you cadres have reeposed faith in me. I will definitely not let you down. I will definitely not let you down. I will come back soon," Sasikala said, TOI reported.
Poor health and pending case were earlier cited as reasons for the leader to withdraw from active politics and campaigns during the last Assembly polls. Sasikala is an ousted leader of the AIADMK. The party was defeated in the last Assembly polls, giving way to DMK. It is expected that her reentry in the state politics would be under the banner of her nephew TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK).
It is being said that cadres in AIADMK and AMMK made hundreds of calls to Sasikala and around 500 cadres wrote to her to return to politics and take over the party.
In March, this year she had written a letter written to her followers and members of the AIADMK party, announcing that she is going to quit politics. The decision comes after her return to public life after spending four years in prison. She had been convicted of corruption in 2017. The letter announcing her departure was written in Tamil.
