Vismaya dowry death case timeline:  In the dowry death case of Vismaya Nair, a Kerala court found her husband, Kiran Kumar, guilty of her death on Monday. He was found guilty of dowry death and abetting her suicide today, less than a year after she died.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Sujith K N also found the husband guilty of dowry-related harassment under the IPC and numerous provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, according to Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) G Mohanraj. The court is set to impose the punishment on Tuesday after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defendant, according to the SPP. He stated that the prosecution would seek the harshest punishment feasible for the defendant, S. Kiran Kumar.

Vismaya dowry death case timeline:

The crime of dowry death is punishable by a minimum of seven years in prison and a maximum of life in prison under section 304B of the Indian Penal Code. The maximum penalties for dowry harassment under Section 498A of the IPC and abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC are three years and ten years in prison, respectively.

  • Kiran Kumar was handed 100 sovereigns of gold (equivalent to 8 kilos of gold) and almost one acre of land, as well as a car worth Rs 10 lakh, as dowry during the wedding in 2020, according to Vismaya's father.
