Police suspect it's an act of revenge killing and traced the past rivalry involving the two families who live in Pendurthi locality in the city. Officials cited that the reason behind the gruesome act was that one of the men of the targetted family was accused of raping the assailant’s daughter in 2018. He was believed to be the main target.

The accused was identified as Appalaraju, who brutally killed three women, a man, a 2-year-old boy and a 6-month old baby girl with a sickle. He has been taken into police custody. He is arrested on the charges of unlawful entry and murder.

Man kills six kin of neighbour, including three women and two infants, who raped his daughter in 2018 in Visakhapatnam. He is now in custody.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police V Sripad Rao"> told the media that police recovered their bodies from a residence in Juttada village of Pendurthi mandal. “The accused Appalaraju is a neighbour of the deceased. There was an ongoing dispute between their families. Because of that issue, he killed six members of the family with a sickle,” Rao said.

Reportedly, Appalaraju had been waiting for an opportunity to kill the rape accused Rama Rao, so he entered the house around 6 am on Thursday when all were asleep.

However, the main accused and his eldest son were not in the house when the attack took place, TOI reported.

Police further noted that the feud between the two families goes way back to 2018 when a member of the family, Vijay, was accused of drugging and raping Appalaraju's daughter. A police case had been registered against Vijay in this matter.  “Since the altercation in 2018, the two families have not been on talking terms. The issue further deteriorated and led to this incident,” Rao added.

Pendurthi police told The News Minute that Vijay had been booked in 2018 for the rape and was out on bail. The case is still under trial.
