woman recite hanuman Chalisa during brain surgery: A 24-year-old woman's brain surgery went rather uniquely. Delhi AIIMS witnessed the unusual incident on July 23. Reportedly, the surgery, which has been playfully termed as Hanuman Therapy, was a successful one.

The young woman recited the 40 verses from the Hanuman Chalisa, a sacred text for the Hindus. while the doctors removed a tumour from her brain.

One of the performing doctors, Deepak Gupta said to the ANI that the woman was given local anaesthesia injections and painkillers while she stayed awake during the three-hour-long complex surgery.

According to news agency ANI, the patient, who aspires to be a school teacher, is currently under medical supervision and will be discharged on July 24.

Is Staying Awake During Brain Surgery Safe?

The study by the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences was released by conducting over 500 such operations in which the patient stayed awake over the last twenty years and termed the same as 'awake craniotomies'.

In such surgeries, patients are kept awake to ensure that critical areas of the brain are not damaged.

Gupta added in the tweeted video that the operational team interacted with the woman and kept her awake to supervise her speech and body movements.

When the team of doctors asked the patient what she wanted to converse about, she replied that she was a Hanuman Bhakt, hence, the team asked her to recite the 40 versed Hanuman Chalisa.
