Is Staying Awake During Brain Surgery Safe?
The study by the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences was released by conducting over 500 such operations in which the patient stayed awake over the last twenty years and termed the same as 'awake craniotomies'.
In such surgeries, patients are kept awake to ensure that critical areas of the brain are not damaged.
Gupta added in the tweeted video that the operational team interacted with the woman and kept her awake to supervise her speech and body movements.
When the team of doctors asked the patient what she wanted to converse about, she replied that she was a Hanuman Bhakt, hence, the team asked her to recite the 40 versed Hanuman Chalisa.
Gupta added that the significance of reciting religious texts is that it affects the patient positively, if they are religious, and provides the assurance that the operation will be successful.
