Initially, the clip, where a gang of four men and one woman could be seen brutally torturing and assaulting a woman, was circulated linking to reports of a Nagaland woman’s death by suicide in Jodhpur on May 23. Later it was clarified by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju that the two cases are different.

Here's all we know about the North Eastern woman assault case:

Earlier this week, a North Eastern woman reportedly died by suicide at Jodhpur in her rented room, as reported by the Naga Student’s Union President of the state. The 25-year-old, who hailed from Dimapur district in Nagaland, was working at ‘Naveen Juice Restaurant’ in Jodhpur. She was reportedly found dead in her rented accommodation and the post-mortem report stated ‘natural suicide’ as the cause for death.

However, Additional Director General of Police, Delhi Police and Special Commissioner Robin Hibu IPS later clarified on Facebook that the video is unrelated to the 25-year old Naga woman, as per Eastern Mirror Nagaland.

Additionally, on 26 May, Youth and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also refuted relations between the Naga woman’s death in Jodhpur and the alleged assault captured on camera.

Eventually, the Assam Police on Thursday revealed images of the five suspected perpetrators and offered a “handsomely” reward for the identification of people.

The Assam police posted on Twitter and wrote, “These images are of 5 culprits who are seen brutally torturing & violating a young girl in a viral video. The time or place of this incident is not clear. Anyone with information regarding this crime or the criminals may please contact us”.

According to the North-Eastern Chronicle, the Assam Police and Meghalaya Police have begun a joint operation to trace the accused in the viral assault video of the North Eastern woman.

Although, the accused have not been identified and no further update on the case has been revealed yet.

On Friday, according to the police, six accused persons in connection with the assault video were caught by the police. In Bengaluru, the police shot two accused persons and arrested them. Out of the six people arrested by the police, four of them are men and the other two are women.
